About

Welcome to Crafting Context.

Most of the thoughts contained in this blog have two purposes:

  1. To help develop contextual thinking in myself; and
  2. To (hopefully) help develop contextual thinking in others.

What does that mean to me?  It means continually trying to understand the platforms from which others play The Game.  It means considering the influences on someone or something before judging or deciding. In time, hopefully, it might also mean becoming better at managing ourselves in our workplaces.

Understanding context is not solely about work, though.  I believe that putting effort into all relationships, both business and personal, makes them worthwhile.  I find that the more I learn, the more the lines between the two blur, and the more my development in one area enhances the other.

Some aspects of my context you may wish to know:

  • I am an engineer.
  • I currently live and work in Perth.
  • I love trying to understand people.
  • I believe that your job should be enjoyable.
  • I believe that your career should be enthusiastically pursued.

If you would like to learn more about my context, please feel free to read my posts.  If you would like to help me either understand your context or change my own, I would love to hear from you.

Some of my favourite posts are:

  • A disclaimer (also known as my justification of why I have a blog).
  • What I do (or what I call ‘My Conversion to Safety Engineering’).
  • A lesson learned (could also described as a blow to my pride, and possibly my favourite post so far).

Please note that I reserve the right to use Canadian, American or British/Australian English spelling depending on whichever is appropriate for a given post!
